The Champions Shanghai playoff draw has produced four opening matches for the eight-team double-elimination bracket. NRG will face T1 and Paper Rex will meet LOUD on October 7. The following day brings an Americas matchup between 100 Thieves and G2 Esports, followed by Team Vitality against Nongshim RedForce.
The draw matched each 2-0 group winner against a 2-1 runner-up. Teams from the same region were allowed to meet immediately, but rosters from the same group could not be placed on the same half of the bracket. Those conditions preserved the value of a first-place group finish while still leaving room for a regional matchup.
NRG and T1 open the playoffs at 6:00 PM JST on October 7. The teams have not met since 2023, when an NRG core defeated T1 at Masters Tokyo. The historical result does not decide the new series because both lineups and the competitive setting have changed, but it gives the pairing a clear point of reference.
Paper Rex and LOUD follow at 9:00 PM JST. LOUD is looking for its first series win over Paper Rex after previous losses at Masters Madrid and Champions Los Angeles. Paper Rex enters as the Group C winner, while LOUD qualified from the second position in Group B.

Two October 8 matches complete the first round
100 Thieves will play G2 Esports at 6:00 PM JST on October 8. It is the only opening series between teams from the same region. VLR’s record has G2 ahead 5-4 across their all-time meetings, and this will be their third encounter of the current year.
Team Vitality and Nongshim RedForce meet at 9:00 PM JST. Their only previous series came at EWC earlier in 2026. Vitality reached the bracket as the undefeated winner of Group B, while Nongshim recovered from an opening loss to finish second in Group D.
All four opening matches are best-of-three series within the double-elimination structure. A first defeat sends a team to the lower bracket rather than eliminating it immediately. That format makes the draw important without turning one difficult pairing into the end of a campaign before the match is played.
The playoffs begin at Jing’an Sports Center, the venue used for the group stage. The top four teams later move to Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, whose listed capacity is 18,000. The venue change separates the early bracket from the final weekend and raises the scale once the field has narrowed.
The complete event carries a $2,250,000 prize pool. First place is listed at $1,000,000, while every team in the playoff bracket has already secured a top-eight finish. Placement now depends on navigating both the opening opponent and the possible paths created by later upper- and lower-bracket results.
The seeding produced four different competitive stories. There is a regional rematch, a first meeting in several years, a sequel to a 2026 international series and a matchup where one team seeks its first win over the other. Those histories provide context, but current group form remains the most recent evidence available before the bracket starts.
The draw defines preparation, not the outcome
Group winners received the expected seeding advantage of facing runners-up, yet every second seed reached Shanghai’s top eight by surviving an elimination match. T1, LOUD, G2 and Nongshim therefore arrive with recent experience under immediate pressure, while NRG, Paper Rex, 100 Thieves and Vitality earned more rest through undefeated groups.
Preparation now becomes specific. Each team can study a confirmed opponent, map preferences and group-stage tendencies rather than preparing for several possible draws. Because the bracket is double elimination, coaches must also protect enough strategic flexibility for a lower route without weakening the plan for the opening series.
The first two match days will establish both upper semifinal pairings and the initial lower-bracket elimination matches. No team is out after the opener, but every loss reduces the remaining margin to zero. The draw therefore sets the route while leaving the essential question to competition: which group-stage strengths can survive direct playoff preparation?

Champions Shanghai resumes on October 7 with NRG against T1 and Paper Rex against LOUD. 100 Thieves versus G2 and Vitality versus Nongshim follow on October 8. The verified draw gives all eight teams a defined route, while double elimination leaves room to recover from one opening defeat.
